Walk on Country provides team with a richer understanding of connection to land

The Barwon Women’s and Children’s project team recently participated in a Walk on Country with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners. .

The Wadawurrung Traditional Owners are the custodians of Wadawurrung Country; they are the decision makers and knowledge holders, and they are also responsible for looking after the Country, including Cultural Heritage.

The Walk on Country provided the team with an understanding of the history of Country, to deepen their understanding of how important the Wadawurrung people have been, and continue to be, in the formation and functioning of modern-day Victoria.

Ash, Wadawurrung Man and Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Aboriginal Corporation Ngarrwa Officer, spoke about the past and current lived experience of Wadawurrung Traditional Owners and shared information on the use of native flora and fauna.

It also provided the team with an awareness of the deep connection Traditional Owners have with the land and how this connection can help shape the Barwon Women’s and Children’s – from a cultural safety perspective  and complement the local landscape.

The Walk on Country also gave the team the opportunity to learn more about Wadawurrung Culture and a deeper understanding of the connection to the land we live and work on, visit, and enjoy.
