Construction of the new Barwon Women’s and Children’s continues to make strong progress, with several major milestones recently achieved on one of the region’s most significant health infrastructure projects.
The new specialist clinic building and eight-storey tower have now reached their highest point and are structurally complete, while the external façades of both buildings have been finished. In another visible sign of progress, the site’s three tower cranes have also been removed, further transforming the University Hospital Geelong skyline.
Construction teams are now focused on the next phase of works, including internal construction and fit-out, bringing the new facilities another step closer to completion in 2028.
Staff, patients and visitors may notice increased activity around University Hospital Geelong as main entry works continue to prepare for the integration of the new tower. While some temporary pedestrian and vehicle disruptions are expected over the coming months, access to the hospital main entry will be maintained.
Another important development is the installation of link bridge structures, which will connect the new buildings with the existing hospital and help create a seamless connection for patients, families and staff.
The Victorian Government’s Barwon Women’s and Children’s project, worth more than $500 million and the largest health infrastructure investment in Geelong’s history, will transform local healthcare by delivering a new children’s inpatient unit, neonatal and parent care unit, specialist clinics, additional operating theatres, and expanded women’s health services.
Together, these milestones mark significant progress towards delivering exceptional healthcare facilities for women, children and families across our region. Thank you for your patience and support as we work with the construction team to minimise disruption and deliver this important investment in our community’s future.
