Using virtual reality (VR) headsets, Barwon Health staff – including nurses, midwives, doctors and support staff – toured the new women’s and children’s areas and tested how the spaces will work in practice.
Four immersive sessions were held to ‘virtually’ put clinicians into the critical areas they will be working in, such as a theatre, neonatal cot bay and procedure rooms, birthing room and support spaces.
These sessions allow clinicians to test layouts and provide feedback on how the spaces will function in practice.
Barwon Health Nurse Unit Manager for Neonatal Services Arnie Krishnan said, “It’s a really special moment – we’re celebrating years of design work and collaboration to create the Barwon Women’s and Children’s. It’s incredibly exciting to get a sneak peek. I’m grateful to be part of such a dedicated team, and I can’t wait to see the difference these new spaces will make for families across our region.”
